Treasure Containers
This box has been hand built and painted with multiple layers and at least 4 coats of each color. It was clear glazed to achieve the shiny surface. It was fired multiple times to achieve the rich colors and textures. The top, with it’s complimentary colors creates a great statement. The interior is purple, of course. 4.5” x 4.5” x 11” tall
Squares are one of the most interesting alternative shapes used for coins. They are also one of the hardest to find. On this container, the square coin-like elements rise above the lid of this Treasure Container and seem to float in the air. Heavy texture has been added throughout this piece, including on the bottom. The top fits nicely into the rim. 5” x 5” x12.5” tall.
On the top of this Treasure Container is a moveable coin-like shape, inside the circle form that sits on the extended arms. It’s just plain fun, and colorful. This piece has had multiple surface treatments from sgraffito to applied texture. The foot is unusual and has a fun undulating form for the container to stand upon. The use of complimentary colors make this piece stand out from whatever it is near. What do you think should go into it? 12” Tall x 4.75” x 4.75”
You will find a spiral on the top of this container. It is perhaps one of the oldest symbols of human spirituality known to man, its an age-old intuitive symbol of our identity with the universe. There are additional spirals along the foot. Surely that will bring added good fortune to its owner. The foot has an undulating form and adds interest to the base. Rich dark colors cascade over the textured turquoise-green, giving almost a rabbit’s fur look. 4” x 4” x 9” tall
An organic ribbon-like element tops this container. The juxtaposition of the smooth blues and the white, with it’s various colored stains and textural embellishments, makes a nice contrast. I like how it rises above the top on its orange holders. 5.5” x 5.5” x 12” tall.
Inspired by kelp and treasures found during a walk on the beach, this organic vessel is topped by an imaginary fish (with a hint of a smile). The gold-copper color is the rare golden Cuyama Shino glaze, made by hand from the sediment from the Santa Maria riverbed. White interior. 5” x 12” tall.
Containers can hold just about anything. One of mine has foreign coins, another has sea shells. This colorful container was air brushed to get the vivid colors. Each section was carefully masked off while I added color to its neighbor. Clear glaze was added in a second firing. The top seems joyful to me with it’s uplifted arms and spiral. 5” x 5 x 8.75” tall
